Why is the connection between WebShop and Google Shopping merchant account not established correctly?

To outline some possible reasons why the connection between your WebShop and Google Shopping merchant account is not established correctly, and to provide some possible solutions to fixing the connection.

a service offered by Google which allows you to add your product information into Google. Once this information is uploaded to Google, the service makes it available to your customers when they search for your products using Google.

WebShop's integration with Google Shopping expand the number of channels where your products are displayed by syncing your product catalogue with Google Merchant Center. Once the connection between WebShop and your Google Merchant Center has been established, your products can be included in Google’s free listings and promoted using Smart Shopping campaigns. You may encounter a situation where the connection is not established correctly between the two systems.

Checks to make

Check that correct Google merchant ID has been entered

Remember that this integration requires you to use a multi-client account with an associated sub-account.

Always use the Google merchant ID of the sub-account you wish to integration Digital Commerce with. This is typically found in a drop-down menu under SUB-ACCOUNTS. Select the relevant sub-account to find its merchant ID.

Check that the correct HTML tag has been entered

The HTML tag is used to verify your Google Merchant Center account so that it can be integrated successfully with Digital Commerce.

A complete HTML verification tag consists of two key value pairs, as follows:

<meta-name>="google-site-verification" content=”value” />

The HTML tag is typically found in the bottom of the Google Merchant Center set up screen. Remember to copy the whole meta tag to the field in our configuration tool.

Check the type of Google merchant center account you have

You must have a multi-client account with an associated sub-account in Google Merchant Center to successfully establish a connection with our platform.

  1. Follow the steps outlined in Advanced Account Setup - Google Merchant Center Help to set up a multi-client account in Google Merchant Center.

  2. Follow the steps outlined in (Shopping Automation) Create sub-accounts for merchants - Google Ads Help to set up a sub-account.

  3. Locate the merchant ID of the sub-account and enter that merchant ID in Step 2: Verify website of our configuration tool.
